Speech Recognition Games
Nanogames can even be played using speech recognition. Although speech recognition software has improved dramatically over the past few years, two problems still remain when trying to play games:
- Computer Games and Speech Recognition software both typically require vast amounts of processing power and when they are both running at the same time the results can be disappointing. either the game runs slowly or inconsistently or the speech recognition becomes slow and/or unreliable. Since Nanogames are lightweight 'Flash' games, they don't require so much processing power, this leaves much more available for the Speech Recognition software.
- Even with the processing power issue solved, there is still one aspect that prevents many games from being playable - the time it takes to speak commands. Action games are typically played using a mouse or keyboard and it is possible to act multiple times in just one second. Even the shortest words cannot do that, and shorter words are more likely to be mis-recognised by the speech recognition software. Even game styles other than action games often have a time limit and cannot be played as quickly using Speech Recognition.
Nanogames have the flexibility to allow for the extra time required by Speech Recognition software. Just go into the GAME SETTINGS panel for any of the games and there is usually a setting that will give the player extra time. Often there are also settings to allow for the player movements to be less precise than usual.
NOTE: Nanogames do not have in-built Speech Recognition but designed to work well with many 3rd Party Speech Recognition software packages.
